Delbo’s legacy, spanning over seven decades, bridges the traditional and digital realms of art. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1933, Delbo began his illustrious career at 16, becoming a beloved figure in both the comic book industry and the emerging NFT space. The Masters Collection: A Tribute to Artistic Giants In his final years, José Delbo dedicated himself to a project celebrating the greats of the traditional art world. This culminated in "The Masters" collection, a set of ten extraordinary pieces paying homage to the artists who profoundly influenced Delbo's creative journey. This collection is a testament to José’s enduring passion for art and innovation. Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) Known as the “father of modern art,” Cézanne's innovative brushwork, multi-viewpoint perspectives, and geometric simplification paved the way for Cubism and abstract art. His work bridges the gap between 19th-century art and 20th-century modernism, inspiring countless artists like Picasso and Mondrian. Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) A Post-Impressionist icon, Van Gogh is celebrated for his vibrant colors and emotional depth. His bold brushwork and expressive use of color have left a lasting impact on modern art, influencing artists such as Matisse and Kandinsky. His masterpieces, including “Starry Night” and “Sunflowers,” continue to captivate audiences worldwide. Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) Kahlo, a renowned Mexican artist, is famous for her vivid, surreal self-portraits that delve into themes of identity, pain, and Mexican culture. Her unique style and profound storytelling have significantly impacted feminist art and modern artists globally. Notable works include “The Two Fridas” and “Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird.” Michelangelo (1475-1564) A Renaissance master, Michelangelo is revered for his sculptures such as “David” and “Pieta,” and his monumental frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. His work epitomizes artistic genius and has influenced countless artists, shaping the course of Western art history. Salvador Dalí (1904-1989) A leading figure in the Surrealist movement, Dalí is known for his dreamlike, bizarre imagery and technical precision. Iconic works like “The Persistence of Memory” highlight his imaginative and eccentric style, leaving a lasting impact on modern art and extending his influence beyond painting.   Collection Details “The Masters” collection features ten pieces, with two dedicated to each of the five masters. Each artist is represented by a one-of-one edition depicting the masters in profile view surrounded by their most famous works, as well as one edition of five “Classic” editions in Delbo’s iconic black and white style. Delbo meticulously worked on these pieces over a three-year period, minting them shortly before his recent passing at the age of 90. Pieces from the collection were first exhibited during the inaugural NFT exhibition at Christie's gallery in Dubai in 2022. The collection will debut on July 23rd, 2024, on Nifty Gateway. The auctions will be staggered over four days. The editions of five will be available through a ranked auction format, while the one-of-one pieces will be sold via a traditional timed auction format. Winners of the one-of-one editions will also receive a museum-quality, one-of-a-kind print of the artwork. Delbo's "The Masters” collection stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of these art giants. Through this collection, Delbo pays homage to their groundbreaking contributions, ensuring their influence continues to inspire artists worldwide.
